AWARDS

2017

Headlinemoney Journalist

of the Year

Winner

Dan Hyde, Money Mail

Sponsored by

industry divide for whom the section is perhaps a little

bit too ‘in-your-face’ in its bid to help readers navigate a

sensible and rewarding path for their financial affairs.

At the same time, however, part of Money Mail’s

attack dog stance is also part of its success. Holding

financial institutions and other big-ticket service

providers to account is all part of the service. Bouquets

are handed out when necessary; unfortunately, we work

successful team rewarded with several shortlistings and

victories elsewhere in this year’s awards programme.

The parts add up to an impressive sum and responsible

for that sum is Dan Hyde: a worthy recipient of this

year’s journalist of the year trophy.

world of financial journalism. He currently edits Money Mail,

one of the UK’s leading personal finance sections which

appears at the heart of the Daily Mail each Wednesday, and

writes the section’s Last Word column. In recent months he

has taken to task ‘dozy’ regulators, accused banks of ‘talking

baloney’ and heaped shame on ‘slippery insurance giants

who hide poor payouts on pensions’.

Dan’s CV also includes stints at both ThisisMoney.

co.uk

and at The Telegraph where he was deputy

personal finance editor.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise to say that Money Mail

is not everyone’s cup of tea amongst those working

in financial services media. There are journalists and

professionals from either side of the financial services
