mean. They’d have called
it being openly friendly.
Steven was there too and
he said Aggie had a bit of
an announcement so it
was nice that we were all
together at this moment,
and he held out his arm
and Aggie came forward
to tell us what it was. He
and she were going to
get married. Obviously
nobody in the house had
known about this, not
even Glea, as there was a
stunned silence, and Glea
herself looked pissed
off no little it seemed to
me. Her eyes went dark
although she mouthed
the words
lovely
and
what a surprise,
and even
managed a giggle and
a kiss on Aggie’s cheek.
But I could tell she was
unhappy about it. And
it didn’t surprise me
because the vile truth
about friends is, they
want you completely in
their power, fixed forever,
like a butterfly on a pin.
And they don’t like being
reminded that things in
life can change of their
own accord. So-called
friends are always out to
get you. Never forget that
whatever you decide to do
about it. And I just hate the
way friends demand your
admiration. You have to
play the part of audience,
cheer-leading them on,
clapping at every move
they make, especially the
clumsy ones. The fact that
they’re as bad as this has
in part made me the way
I am.
I played along with my
housemates that night
