On the site of the original fortress above the village,

the panoramic gardens

, have a 360° view overlooking

the medieval village and the confluence of the Dordogne

and Vézère rivers

. A series of entertaining educational

themed spaces have been created in the heart of a five-acre

English-style garden. Children and the whole family can

enjoy interactive woodland trails and various workshops,

according to season. At the end of the tour, a visit to the shop

where there’s a good choice of gardening books and a “plant

tavern” which will allow you to take some of it home.

the Confluence

“My father was the village glass-blower until 2009,so I’ve

walked this these streets up and down,ever since I was a child.

In summer,the port is like a seaside resort so I used to go to the

beach every afternoon.You can imagine the number of times

I’ve climbed and ambled through the narrow streets around

the old town walls! Even though I’ve always lived here,each

time I wander around,I discover something new:a wall carving,

something engraved above a doorway…The brewery,started in

2001,has become a part of this beautiful setting

.Our organic

‘Lutine’beer has really taken on and is nowadays synonymous

with Limeuil.”

Daughter of Gilles de la Tour,Lord of Limeuil,and

Marguerite de la Cropte,Lady of Lanquais,Isabeau de

Limeuil,born in 1531,hadn’t reached her seventeenth

birthday when she became Catherine de Medicis’ Maid of

Honour.According to her contemporaries,such as Ronsard

and Brantôme,she was very beautiful and rapidly joined

the Queen Mother’s‘flying squad’of young ladies whose

mission was to seduce the kingdom’s powerful men and

schemers in particular,in order to foil plans of treachery.
