Currently employing 180 people,
Swagelok Ltd is one of the largest of
the 52 manufacturing companies on the
Isle of Man. Since the purchase of the
facility in 2003, Swagelok has invested
heavily in new machinery, recruiting,
and training additional associates, as
well as investing in the refurbishment
of the offices and information service
upgrades. The warehouse expansion
is the first phase of an expansion plan
aimed at providing additional capacity.
In the past year, Swagelok’s Isle of
Man workforce has grown by 20%,
and recruitment of skilled professionals
such as manufacturing, process and
maintenance engineers and CNC
operators is continuing. The company
has introduced extensive training and
personal development programmes,
and offers training schemes for those
looking for a career change. These
include a mature apprentice programme
which involves on-the-job training in
CNC and conventional machining,
night school and National Vocational
Qualification (NVQ) support to allow
associates to become qualified CNC
machine operators.

A successful
Tube China 2008
The organisers of Tube China 2008,
which took place alongside wire China
2008 in September at the Shanghai
New International Expo Centre, have
reported that the event ended on a high
note.
The combined shows hosted 1,098
exhibitors, occupying an exhibiting area
of 57,500m2 , including nine country/
region pavilions for exhibitors from
Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Korea,
Spain, UK, North America and Taiwan.
Two highlighted showcases, ‘Chemical’
and ‘Spring and Fastener’, witnessed
a rapid growth, with the number of
exhibitors in the ‘Chemical’ showcase
almost reaching 100 – double the
number in 2006.
The event was attended by over
30,000 trade visitors from around the
world, including delegates from India,
Iran, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan,
Thailand and Vietnam. Manufacturers
and companies from related industries,
such as wire, cable, raw materials,
tube and pipe, and production and
refining machines, were said to be very
satisfied with the trade fair. Exhibitors
also praised the business talks with
guests and the high ratio of international
visitors.
The next event, wire and Tube China
2010, will take place in Shanghai in
September 2010.
