Old-Time Music Heritage Hall
The Historic EarleTheatre in Downtown Mount Airy,
built in 1937, is reminiscent of classic movie houses with
an Art Deco-style design. It was built in 1938 and was
chosen as a site for the premiere of “Gone with the
Wind” simultaneously with the grand opening of the film
in Atlanta, Georgia. Inside is the Old-Time Music Heritage
Hall, with exhibits on Surry County old-time and blue-
grass musicians. The theatre also shows feature films and
classic movies throughout the year, as well as Thursday-
night and Saturday afternoon bluegrass and old-time
music jam sessions,TAPS music lessons, old-time dances,
Voice of the Blue Ridge and Blue Ridge and Beyond
concert series.The Earle is home to the second-longest-
running live radio broadcast,WPAQ’s Merry-go-Round,
