Donna Fargo Collection

The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History in historic

Downtown Mount Airy houses an exhibit on the musi-

cal career of Grammy Award winning country music

star Donna Fargo, including stage outfits, photographs,

records and other memorabilia.

Dr. Robert Smith House

The neo colonial neocolonial architectural home was

constructed in 1910 for the medical office of Robert E.

Smith, M.D., son of Jefferson Davis and Gertrude Gilmer

Smith.The home is listed on the National Register of

Historic Places.The Blue House Art andTeaching Studio

of Mount Airy uses the Dr. Robert Smith House as their

base of operations, with art classes for disabled adults as

well as gallery space for the work they create.Also lo-

cated on the property is the Memorial Park and Gardens,

which is available for special functions and events.

Edwards-Franklin House

Located near Lowgap, is maintained by the Surry

County Historical Society. It is open to the public from

the 2nd Saturday in April thru September.This is the

home of the Sonker Festival that is held annually on the

first Saturday in October, honoring the Surry County

Gertrude-Smith House

The historic home was built in 1903 by the Jefferson

Davis Smith Family and is on the National Register of

Historic Homes.The home remains decorated as it was

in the past, full of art, antiques, and collections from all

over the world.The house serves as a living museum,

reflective of the early 1900s lifestyle.The home is open

from May through December each year for free tours

and is decorated for Christmas each year. Everything in

the home is original.
