RETIREES, SCHOOL

DISTRICT

EMPLOYMENT OF

A school district may employ STRS retirees for any position. If the retiree

assumes duties during the first two months following retirement, he or

she also forfeits the pension allowance or benefit for that period.

A board wishing to hire a retiree must give public notice at least sixty

days prior to the first day of employment that it proposes to continue the

employment of a retiree, that it will hold a hearing between fifteen and

thirty days before the employment, and specify the time, date, and public

location for the public hearing.

The school district must give notice to the retirement system when it has

employed a retiree.

reward cannot be paid to a board member, employee of the board, or a

family member of either the board member or employee.

The identify of the individual providing the information (whether or not

receiving the reward) is not a public record, and no board member or

employee may discuss how information was received and who provided

it if the board has established the reward.

ROTC (JUNIOR

RESERVE OFFICER

TRAINING CORPS)

Junior Reserve Officer Training (JROTC) is one of the permitted

electives in Ohio’s curriculum requirements for graduation (formerly

known as the “core curriculum”).

Districts may excuse JROTC students from the half-credit physical

education requirement if they participate in the JROTC program for “at

least” two full school years. The academic credit from the JROTC class

will fulfill the requirement of an elective in place of the physical education

requirement.
