Clamps for demanding requirements
With the highly flame resistant
polyamide material PAV0, Stauff can
produce plastic clamps for securing
pipes, hoses, cables and other building
components that meet the toughest
relevant fire protection requirements in
the European railway vehicle norm DIN
EN 45545-2:2013.
The material surpasses the stipulated
limit values for seals, hoses, cable
channels and other components in the
R22 set of requirements for hazard
level HL3, which apply to interior
applications. The grading in category
HL3 allows the use of fasteners/fixing
elements according to all of the norms
covering classes of construction and
operation for railway carriages.
The verification of the required material
properties relevant to the classification
was achieved within the scope of varying
test methods, which were carried out
by independent test institutes: for
components that are handled in the
R22 requirement set – in addition to
the oxygen index, or the ascertainment
of the oxygen limit value up to the
material’s point of combustion – the
low smoke density and toxicity are of
particular importance. If a material
meets the R22 requirement set, it can
also be used in the areas covered in
requirement sets R23, R24 and R26.
PAV0 is processed using the injection
moulding method. In addition to
standard block clamps as per DIN
3015, special customised designs
based on customer specifications or
the company’s own development can
be created.

mechanical fittings
The United States Coast Guard (USCG)
has issued an acceptance letter for
Pyplok
®
mechanical fittings, approving
their use in a wide range of applications
on board vessels.
Pyplok mechanical fittings, available in
carbon steel, stainless steel and copper
nickel, are now approved for use in
the following shipboard applications,
as afforded by 46 CFR 50.20-50(b):
machinery sea water cooling inboard of
the sea valve; bilge and ballast systems;
cargo oil systems; fire main/sprinkler/
foam systems; fuel and lubricating oil
systems; compressed air; and hydraulic
systems.
“The USCG acceptance letter is
something we have been working
toward and are excited to receive,”
said Chris Peitchinis, vice president
of global business development at
Pyplok manufacturer Tube-Mac Piping
Technologies.
“We believe that Pyplok is the most
economical and efficient way of joining
pipes or tubes. The fittings are installed
cold and safe without the hazards of
welding. It reduces costs, enhances
quality, and provides a leak-free, reliable
connection.”
Pyplok fittings have an ‘outer O-ring
seal’, also called an environmental
seal, that prevents sea water or
other environmental elements from
entering between the tubes and
fitting, preventing any corrosion at the
interface between the pipe and the
fitting.
Other features include 360° external
radial swage fitting on to the tube
assembly; and an inspection gauge to
ensure a proper swage.
The fitting can be re-swaged multiple
times. The Pyplok tool has a mechanical
stop, to prevent over-swaging of the
fitting. The tool is lightweight and fits in
tight confined spaces.
Pyplok fittings can be installed on
seamless or welded, hot or cold rolled
tube. Sizes range from ¼" to 2" OD
tube, ¼" to 2" NPS pipe, and 6 to 60mm
metric tube.
