CLASS REPS: Ann Woodrooffe Ferguson and Susan
Sheen
Most of us hit the big 7-0 either last year or this!
Congratulations! Travel, grandchildren, sports and
volunteering seem to be the main pastimes of the members
of our class. A number of us are thinking about, or have
already done, some downsizing.
Karen McNair Morgan
moved into a condo in Aurora
and rode in the Santa Claus parade in Lisle after a seven-
year hiatus.
Eleanor (Ele) Johnson Kyle
enjoys living half
of the year on the family island on Lake of the Woods and
half of the year on a golf cart in The Villages in Florida.
Ann
Barnett Love
is working with her sister on another book
for kids –
Re-wilding
– due out in the summer from Annick
Press. Ann and
Susan Sheen
had a brief visit at the funeral
of Ann’s aunt, Mary Ranger, in Orangeville in January.
Virginia (Ginny) Evans
had lunch with
Jane Grand
Clark
and
Jane Godsoe Delost
in the fall.
Ginny (Gins)
Olga Doolittle
is happy and healthy, living in Vancouver.
She is involved with painting, music and volunteering.
Judy
Jennings McMunn
’s daughter Meagan was married in
April 2016. Judy is an active member of a Probus Club and
travelled to the Maritimes in September.
Many classmates have mentioned the joys of
grandchildren and of visits with them.
Dorinda (Dinny)
McLaren McCraney
had three love-filled visits with her
Calgary grandchildren.
Jane Glassco
travelled to Costa
Rica and her seventh grandchild is on the way. In November,
Susanne Knox Gammond
spent time with family in
London, Ontario and with friends in Vancouver. She and
her husband Gerry hosted Ele and Bill Kyle for lunch last
September.
Ann Woodrooffe Ferguson
enjoys outdoor
activities with her family and still volunteers with Wellspring
and the Canadian University Women’s Federation.
Susan Sheen
is going on a pilgrimage tour of Ireland
in May. She continues to foster dog guides-in-training for
the Lions Foundation of Canada. Those of you who met
Loki at our 50th Reunion will be glad to know that she has
successfully finished her specialized training in the service
dog (wheelchair) program and will graduate this spring.
We thank
Mary Ross McKee, Vivien Ludlow, Caroline
(Cass) Campbell Kernohan
and
Judy Jennings McMunn
again for all of their work in organizing the creation of the
memorial music folder in memory of
Beth (Buffy) Spears
Ash
. Thanks to those who donated towards it. We received
two additional copies of the folder at no cost. One was given
to Buffy’s husband and the other to Buffy’s sister Jeannie,
to be placed on the piano at Buffy’s beloved Georgian Bay
cottage.
We think especially of those classmates who have had
health challenges this past year and of those who have
lost loved ones. As one classmate wrote, “I realize just
how wonderful the Havergal connection really is. I am
overwhelmed by the outpouring of care and support from
all my Havergal friends. At times like this, how fortunate we
are to have one another.” As Miss Steele once said, “We
are a Vintage Year”!

toured Holland, Belgium and France and saw where
Anne’s father landed in Normandy on D-Day.
Margot
Kay Hillman
had an exciting year with the arrival of two
granddaughters. Her youngest daughter’s family moved
to Nuremburg, Germany for a two-year assignment and
Margot plans to visit.
This past year, we lost two classmates.
Jean (Jeannie)
Smith Barton
was full of life. She often met and travelled
with Kathy,
Bonnie (Bryce) Gibson
and
Mary (Gausby)
Collins
.
Linda Parker Clark
lived up in Wilberforce
for the past 20 years ‒ snowplowing in the winter and
gardening in the summer, cooking gourmet dinners and
often travelling with her husband to unusual destinations.
To honour their memory and those who have already left
us, we are setting up a memorial fund. Jane Watson and
Marg Cowan-Slamen are working with the Advancement
Office on this.
