cottage.

Suzanne Mayberry McCollum

is very involved

in supporting her 10 grandchildren’s activities. Her

grandson’s hockey tournament took Suzanne to Quebec

City, where she hoped to find another “Havergal grandma.”

Skiing and kayaking with her 11 grandchildren are some

of

Penny Anne Stride Davidson

’s favourite activities.

Visiting her sons in northern Ontario is a summer ritual for

Judith Cory Mangoff

, who celebrates her 55th wedding

anniversary this fall with a special trip.

“Artist, teacher, mother, grandmother, advocate for child

literacy” was how

Mary Osler

wished to be remembered.

We would add that she was a great friend and loyal Havergal

supporter. Mary died on July 29, 2016 in Waterloo.

CLASS REPS: Patricia (Pat) Weller Bent, Marsha

Davis Brooks, Rosemary Elder Dick and Cynthia

(Cyndy) Thomas Smith

Our classmates are in a period of transition. We have

experienced much that has been wonderful, but also

deaths of spouses and family members, illness, divorce,

job loss or change, transition from family homes to

condos or country havens ‒ and yet most of us are

“still standing.” We are among the first classes of HC

women who

all

had careers, many outside of the norm,

many continuing; many also raised families, volunteered

and travelled. Havergal encouraged us to pursue higher

education, to be independent, to develop emotional

resilience and to give back to the community…for that

we are grateful.

Anne Carter

wrote from her seaside home in Hahei,

New Zealand. Heavy seas have cramped her ocean

swimming this year, but spring will see her back at

the bridge table in Toronto.

Kathleen (Cathy) Cowan

Russell

wrote from her winter abode in Chapala, Mexico,

where she teaches ESL part time. When in Toronto,

she and

Elizabeth (Liz) Clough Munt

see each other

regularly.

Karen Taylor Alvarez

’s travel business in

Mexico City continues to thrive.

Patricia (Pat) Weller

Bent

and her husband will return to Ecuador in April for

another philanthropic surgical mission.

Sheila Milne Leach

has retired from her Sudbury

medical practice and now has free time at last.

Patricia

(Pat) Waterous Margetts

reports that she continues to

relax at her farm in the country, with occasional theatre

trips into Toronto.

Marsha Davis Brooks

encountered

Lynda (Fitz) Keyfetz Rapp

, now living on Bloor Street,

still shopping in her traditional North York haunts.

Jill

Gould Tierney

has given up her greeting service business,

Community Greetings, in Newburyport, Massachusetts

and seeks a new path.

We were all sorry to hear about

Mary Krug Ndlovu

’s

bad luck on her return from many years in Zimbabwe

to retire in Edmonton, Alberta, only to slip and fall on

ice, resulting in a broken hip. We hope that her visit to

family in Barbados will restore her health. Perhaps she

will connect with longtime Edmonton resident and former
