A Decade of Success
I was confident our planned IPA Friendship Weekend
at Eastbourne would match up to previous
expectations.
I have been organising these
weekends at various locations for over 10 years.
The weekends are intended to be a cheap break for
IPA members, family and friends. Over the years we
have enjoyed good food and good facilities at various
hotels at Woolacombe, Newquay and Torquay. I had booked
in 110 people and had been assured that all the hotel rooms had been
fully refurbished - but on arrival several members found that the builders
were still at work!
Not the best of starts that’s for sure and you may wonder how the
weekend turned out. Well, there was another side to this tale. It turned out
to be another successful weekend. You may well ask, how can that be?
Well, if you have ever enjoyed the company of IPA friends you will
understand why. A little bit of hardship does not detract from the great
camaraderie and irresistible fun we all experience. Eastbourne was a new
area to explore and Beachy Head was a place to admire. We had fabulous
weather and were able to do everything we planned to do on both days.
No, it was not a retirement town but a lively shopping precinct. We had
entertainment in the evening and our Treasurer, Owen Harris, raised £180
in a draw with many prizes graciously donated - proceeds going to support
sufferers of Guillain–Barré syndrome - a dreadful disorder that in which
the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.
Thanks to everyone for their support for that.
So how can I measure the weekend as a success? That’s easy, The smiles
on faces, the enduring friendship, the genuine encouragement from all
our members and finally from the numbers who have already booked for
next year at Bournemouth outweighed any negatives.
Want to join us for an unforgettable weekend next year? Come and
celebrate Valentine's Day with us. You will not regret it, I promise.

I have already inspected the hotel and have been offered a great
deal for next year.

Police Officers Show
Interest
in what IPA
has to Offer
IPA member, David Kerr, has demonstrated there are serving police
officers showing an interest in what IPA has to offer them.
David, who is from Glasgow, Lomond and Clyde branch was appointed
Branch Publicity Officer earlier this year. He wasted no time in
organising a regular exhibition stand at Jackton Police Training
College – the first of which was held on 16 April.
Speaking about his day, David said,
“I set up my display at 9:30am
and received an enquiry within 10 minutes of my being there. Some
police officers knew I would be there as information had had been
circulated on the police intranet. I stayed at the college until 2:15pm
and received 19 enquiries. So far, 5 people have indicated they will
join.”
Congratulations to David on his efforts. Any member wanting more
information on the Branch Publicity Officer role can email:

Paul Scauzillo from Section USA Region 6 writes following a visit to
the UK.
Paul and his son were enormously impressed by the actions of
Bob McCormack, Secretary of the Two Cities branch, who assumed the
responsibility of filling a temporary vacuum in the organisation of hosting
in the London area.
Paul said,
“Please send my personal gratitude to Bob McCormack and
the members of Section UK for taking the initiative to salvage what
might otherwise have been an unpleasant experience. I had a great time
and would like to thank Bob for stepping in as he saw that my request
had fell through the cracks. Bob contacted me and arranged to meet. He
travelled 1.5 hours to get to my hotel. He took my son and I around
downtown London and used his knowledge and experience to show us
things off the tourist map. He was a great ambassador.”
