Several food borne molds and some yeasts, may also be hazardous to human or animal health because

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Rapid Yeast and Mold Count Plate method was developed to provide rapid

quantitative yeast and mold results from foods. The method is reproducible, and is faster than the agar
9
methods, providing results in 48 hours compared to the typical five to seven days.

Principle

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Rapid Yeast and Mold Count (RYM) Plate is a sample-ready culture medium system
13
which contains nutrients supplemented with antibiotics, a cold-water-soluble gelling agent, and an
14
indicator system that facilitates yeast and mold enumeration, but does not speciate yeast and mold
15
from one another. 3M Petrifilm RYM is used for the enumeration of yeast and mold in the food and
16
beverage industries and has been validated for yogurt, sour cream, almonds, sliced apples, frozen bread
17
dough, ready-made pie, sandwiches, dehydrated soup, fermented salami and frozen ground beef
18
patties.
