Raw Ground Beef (73% Lean; 325 g Test Portions)
Raw ground beef test portions were inoculated at a low
and high level and analyzed (Table 3) for the detection of
Salmonella
spp. Uninoculated controls were included in each
analysis. Laboratories 7 and 10 did not participate in the
evaluation of this matrix. Laboratory 5 received test portions
but was unable to conduct the analysis and, therefore, no data
were submitted. All other laboratories submitted a full set of
data for each method. The MPN levels obtained for this test
portion were 0.67 CFU/test portion (95% confidence interval,
0.53–0.83) for the low inoculum level and 4.76 CFU/test
portion (95% confidence interval, 3.41–6.65) for the high
inoculum level.
For the low inoculum level, 83 of 156 test portions (POD
CP
of 0.53) were reported as presumptive positive by the 3M MDA
