6.2.2.6 Relax and Drive
Purpose
: To develop relaxation in the hands, wrists and arms when running at speed.
Action
: The young athlete should place a potato chip between the index finger and the thumb of
each hand. He or she should then try to sprint without crushing the potato chips. This drill should be
performed in pairs, as the young athletes will then be able to imitate race pressure, which can cause
tension throughout the body.
