6.8.2.3 Pursuit Relay
Activity
: Each team is given a letter and each team member is given a number. Therefore the first
member of team ‘A’ is ‘A1’ and the fifth member of team ‘A’ is ‘A5’. All the first members of each
team are given a baton and when the whistle is blown they run anti-clockwise, so that ‘A1’ passes
the baton to ‘A2’ who passes the baton to ‘A3’ and so on.
Team ‘A’ is chasing Team ‘B’
Team ‘B’ is chasing Team ‘C’
Team ‘C’ is chasing Team ‘D’
Team ‘D’ is chasing Team ‘A’
All four teams are chasing around together and passing the baton at every take-over. When the
baton reaches the fifth runners they continue passing it on again to the first, second and third and so
on, round and round until the fifth runners are back in their starting places at which point the batons
are held aloft to indicate that the team has finished. All members of all teams should have run four
times and each team would have covered five laps.
