Discovering the U.K.
Wapping and London’s Docklands
The Docklands, on the River Thames, is
home to some of London’s most historic and
characterful areas: the heart of the old docks
around Wapping and Limehouse and Tower
Hill, Shad Thames and Bankside. Wapping is
a unique central London location, in that its
residential areas can be very peaceful while
still in sight of London's financial centres of
the City and Canary Wharf. It has something
for everyone and is perceived by many as a
hidden gem.
Housing Market
Property in the area is characterised by apartments, of which there are two main types.
Perhaps most typical are the archetypal riverside warehouse conversions, brimming with
character and featuring exposed brickwork, beams and original loading bay doors. In
contrast, a fine array of ultra-modern, portered developments boast gym and spa facilities,
underground parking and balconies. Penthouses at the top of the market offer the ultimate in
contemporary chic. Deluxe modern apartments can be found almost anywhere within the
area. For classic warehouse conversions, look in and around Shad Thames, Butler’s Wharf,
St Katherine Docks and Wapping High Street. For extreme luxury and ultra-modern style,
head to Canary Riverside, West India Quay, Pan Peninsula and Neo Bankside.

Entertainment
Wapping and the riverside around Tower Bridge are steeped in history yet thoroughly
modern, defining the regeneration of London’s industrial heritage. The Tower of London is
one of the most iconic historic buildings in the world; on the other side of the river, ancient
and modern are represented by Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern. All this is set
against the glistening architectural set-pieces of Canary Wharf, the Gherkin and the Shard,
lending a thrilling contemporary edge. The close proximity of one of the most significant
financial centres of the world means that there is no shortage of highly sophisticated and
fashionable pubs, bars and eateries, including Conran’s, Le Pont de la Tour, The Chop
House and Gordon Ramsay’s gastropub The Narrow. Wapping is also home to one of
London’s oldest pubs, The Prospect of Whitby, which dates to 1543.
Transport
Wapping is ideally situated for the City and Canary Wharf and is easily walkable. The Jubilee
line at Canary Wharf runs between Stratford, Bond Street and the West End. The Circle and
District lines are easily accessible at Tower Hill, while the Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
provides services from Tower Gateway to Bank in just 6 minutes. Overground services from
Wapping run south to Croydon and Crystal Palace; north to Islington; and east to Watford.
Mainline services to Kent and the South Coast leave from London Bridge Station.
