Discovering the U.K.

Shoreditch and Liverpool Street

The area between Shoreditch and Liverpool St is often referred to as London’s ‘Silicon

Valley’. London’s technology hub is growing fast, and attracts a crowd of young, trendy,

ambitious, professionals who want to live and work in this vibrant and exciting part of the

capital.

Shoreditch is part of the London Borough of Hackney and is within walking distance of the

City. It is home to thousands of creative individuals, from fine artists to musicians, designers

and filmmakers as well as an increasing

number of young professionals employed

in the technology sector. The area’s social

life often centres around the bars and

restaurants of Hoxton Square, although in

recent years there has been an explosion

of new restaurants and cafes to cater for

every taste.

Housing Market

Property in Shoreditch ranges from converted warehouses through to Georgian terraced

houses. Closer to the City there are an increasing number of contemporary purpose-built

apartments. Traditionally a less expensive area for real estate, buying or renting a home in

this part of London can be tricky to navigate. Central Shoreditch has become relatively

expensive although a few streets in either direction can quickly take you into less desirable

areas.

Entertainment

Shoreditch is filled with independent boutiques, bars, clubs and galleries, and enterprising

developers have rapidly turned derelict warehouses into stunning loft-style apartments over

the last ten years to meet the increasing demand for property here. Shoreditch Triangle

provides an eclectic and edgy mix of boutiques, cafes, restaurants and clubs. A more

glamourous alternative is Spitalfields Market with its glossy selection of shops, wine bars

and cafes.

Transport

Liverpool Street is just a short walk of the Square Mile and has one of the capital’s largest

train stations at its disposal. The connecting underground station is in zone 1 with access to

the Central, Metropolitan, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines. Shoreditch High Street

railway station and Old Street Underground Station provide this popular area with fast

connections to the rest of London.
