Discovering the U.K.
Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf is now considered a major business district in East London and is home to the
European headquarters of many large global corporations. While predominately a business
district, it has in recent years seen an increase in the number of residential buildings and
developments pop up along the River Thames. Being a relatively small district, everything is
in walking distance and it getting to other parts of town easy due to its connectivity by public
transport.
The area was completely redeveloped in the
1990’s. There are many new build blocks of
flats around Canary Wharf and more developed
residential buildings to the south in the area
known as the Isle of Dogs. River views are
sought after and command a premium rent.
The area attracts singles, couples, and
professionals. More families are moving to the
area as more shops and restaurants open.
Housing Market
Housing is mostly new build and high-rise apartment blocks, especially around the riverside
of the Isle of Dogs, just south of Canary Wharf tube station. Many of the houses have river
views and modern apartment blocks have some excellent facilities such as underground
parking, gyms and swimming pools. Some of the older apartments range from ex-local
authority houses and apartments to the east of Canary Wharf in Cubitt Town and in Millwall
to the west.

Entertainment
Being a major business district, the food and drink offering here is of great quality, with some
fantastic restaurants and bars open all day. One of the most opulent and unusual eateries is
the Floating Lotus restaurant, sitting on the Inner Millwall dock, serving traditional dim sum
and classic Chinese dishes. Given the areas plethora of bars and restaurants, nightlife is
varied and in quantity. Canary Wharf is also only a short tube ride across the river to the O2
Millennium Dome which hosts a wide variety of concerts, has restaurants and bars and a
cinema.
Transport
Having a car is easy here as many of the apartment buildings have underground parking and
the area is easily accessible with main roads. Public transport is also a great option and the
area is well served and connect via the Tube and Docklands Light Railway (DLR).
