Discovering the U.K.

after schools in this part of the capital. St

John’s Wood is also home to the iconic

Abbey Road made famous by the Beatles.

Little Venice forms part of Maida Vale. Its

wide, tree-lined avenues, canal-side homes

and pavement cafes have enormous charm.

Historically, these canals were crucial to

London’s trading prowess, as goods were

transported via boat before the railways took

over. Now visitors enjoy leisurely boat trips

through the meandering canal system into

the heart of London.

The Housing Market

Despite being so close to central London and just two tube stops from Bond Street, St

John’s Wood and Maida Vale continue to attract families in search of a peaceful, residential,

village-like quality. Property includes stucco-fronted villas, handsome townhouses and

modern apartment blocks.

Full of eccentric architecture, St John’s Wood is the home of Lord’s Cricket Ground, which

itself is the home of Middlesex Country Cricket Club and the Marylebone Cricket Club

(MCC). St John’s Wood is also famous for the Abbey Road Studio, a nineteenth century

stately building where the Beatles recorded the Abbey Road album. Just to the north east of

St John's Wood lies Primrose Hill, a beautiful parkland area boasting fantastic views over

London.

St John’s Wood station (Zone 2) is on the Jubilee Line and links with Bond Street in just five

minutes. Maida Vale underground station is on the Bakerloo Line and is in Travelcard Zone

Clapham

Clapham, in south London, offers an appealing mix of good transport links, urban character

and attractive period homes. It attracts a cosmopolitan and diverse mix of residents. Families

are drawn to the vast common, good schools and the more “villagey” areas such as

Abbeville and Clapham Old Town. Young professionals love the shopping, transport

connections and vibrant social scene.

Clapham is probably best known for its large, 89-acre Common loved by sun-worshippers,

families, dog-walkers and joggers. Despite being surrounded by busy arterial roads, it is a

broad and tranquil space beloved by all locals.
