Continued to implement the
sustainability communications plan
within the community using social
media, website, New City Hall tours,
and other means;
Continued to raise the City’s
sustainability profile through events
(eg. Party for the Planet April 2015) as
well as staff involvement in various
networks;
Investigated opportunities for
streamlined/automated reporting on
sustainability metrics and linked with
Open Data portal. Investigated and
analyzed the new ISO 37120 City
Quality Of Life Certification and its
applicability to Surrey;
Partnered with BC Sustainable Energy
Association to deliver Climate Change
Showdown in Surrey schools in 2014-
2015, with winners coming to Council
in June 2015; and
Delivered various presentations at
conferences and webinars to highlight
the City’s sustainability achievements
such as the Community Climate Action
Strategy.
SOCIO-CULTURAL
Completed the Annual Report on the
Action Plan for the well-being of
Surrey Residents (the “Social Plan”);
Completed the draft Action Plan to end
homelessness in Surrey;
Successfully applied for a 3-year
contract from the Federal Government
to coordinate and facilitate the Local
Immigration Partnership Program in
Surrey;
Completed the Poverty Reduction
Plan;
Facilitated a successful federal grant
application for additional supportive
housing in Surrey;
Supported the now-streamlined
community garden application
process;
Worked with “Can You Dig It” (a non-
profit) to activate new community
gardens where needed;
Promoted the success of the Growing
Roots Garden (DiverseCITY) with a
case study and toolkit;
Participated in a Collective Impact
workshop process around food waste
and food security with community
partners including Food Action
Coalition;
Worked with other departments to
create a Food-related layer on
COSMOS, to complement the
information now available on the City
website;
Ongoing involvement in the FCM
Quality of Life Reporting System
(QOLRS);
Completed an initial scoping of the
sharing economy in Surrey with focus
on food; and
Supported the Social Planning
landlord outreach efforts, integrating
building energy efficiency program
information.
