helped Jordan control and manage dose
uptake and airborne contamination.
Wachs is best known for its famous Trav-L-
Cutter, which drives itself around the OD of
a pipe, cutting and beveling simultaneously
while adjusting automatically for out of
roundness. The company also manufactures
the Wachs split frames for a lathe type finish
and precison weld prep. It can machine
all common sizes, wall thicknesses and
materials including cast, ductile iron,
stainless steel and high yield alloys.
Split frames are available in SDSF (small
diameter split frame), LCSF (low clearance
split frames) and the massive HDSF
(heavy duty split frame). The equipment is
designed for the power generation industry,
pipelines, oil platforms, petrochemical
plants, refineries, shipyards, pharmaceutical
labs and food and beverage processing
plants.

The PowerDrill comes with either a
pneumatic or hydraulic drive. Powerful
enough to drill a 127mm diameter hole
in high yield pipe, it features high-torque
gearing, long feed travel and the ability
to safely operate in many environments,
including explosive and subsea.
With its rugged construction and
comprehensive features and options, the
multi-axial PowerDrill is a very powerful
and versatile portable drilling tool. Ideal
applications include tapped or beveled
access holes, stud removal, gamma plugs,
RT plugs, and Thermowell installation. It
can also be used to add weld prep details
into piping.
A PowerDrill was recently used by Jordan
Nuclear to assist on the B268 MA1
Cell Refurbishment Project in Cumbria,
UK. Mounted around a 1.4m and 1.7m
separation vessel, access holes were
drilled to monitor radiation levels within the
12mm thick stainless steel vessels.
