TURKEY

• Human remains must be placed in

hermetically sealable metal casket,

interior of which has been filled to depth

of 2” with sawdust, powdered charcoal,

peat or similar material. If death was due

to contagious disease, body must be

wrapped in cloth soaked with antiseptic

solution

• Sealed liner must be placed within wooden

box constructed of lumber at least 1 ½”

thick, with waterproof joints, & lid must be

closed with screws placed 8” apart.

Entire wooden container must be further

reinforced by metal hoops encircling it

• Remains of person who died of smallpox,

asiatic cholera, bubonic plague or typhus

fever may not be shipped until one year

has elapsed since date of death

• Only citizens of Turkey could be transited to

Turkey

• Airport that remains will be object to

customs clearance (in Turkey) should be

indicated

• Original Nufus Cuzdani (Turkish National ID

card)

• Original Turkish passport

• 3 Certified copies of Death Certificate

certifying that all regulations have been

met when embalming or cremating for

remains to be transferred overseas.

Document has to be notarized, validated

by County Clerk & apostilled

• Certificate of Transportation (substitute of

Bill of Lading) document is issued by

consulate & contains all information on

deceased, details of flight, including

dates, airline names, flight #’s, stopovers

& names & passport #’s of people

accompanying remains.

• All costs related to funeral services,

paperwork & repatriation are of exclusive

responsibility of petitioners, consulate

has no obligation what so ever to assume

any of them, neither totally nor partially

• Documentation intervened and/or issued by

consulate for this repatriation is free of

charge

• Should cause of death be an infectious

disease, no repatriation will be authorized

before a waiting period of ten years
