Spice I Am
90 Wentworth Ave
It’s not a weekend without at least
one lunch en famille (David and dogs)
at Spice I Am. A bottle of wine and
a pavement table can make instant
nirvana of Wentworth Ave and the
food’s ambrosial. I crave these flavours
when I’m overseas and it’s the closest
to Bangkok you’ll get in Sydney.

Mondo Luce
439 Crown St
One of the best-edited selections of
lamps and lighting in Sydney, if not
Australia. Like CSF, Mondo Luce is one
of the elder statesmen of Surry Hills.

Toko
490 Crown St
It’s definitely the Crown St strip’s show
pony, but to be honest it’s the best
place to spot the people I admire
most, like Mel B. Toko is expensive but
the food is sublime and it’s long been
my lunch venue of choice.

Missy K
57A Fitzroy St
Missy K, Non La and Cochin are a trio
of great Asian restaurants on this busy
strip where Fitzroy St meets Bourke St.
Missy K’s dumpling and tea house is
the cool new kid on the block, and
deservedly popular.

Surry Hills really is one of the
world’s great urban villages,
like Portobello or St Germain.
