Sample Enrichment

Samples were prepared for testing with either the BAX® System method or the appropriate

reference culture method as summarized in Table 1. Meat, poultry, and pet food samples

were enriched in Buffered Peptone Water according to the USDA-FSIS and/or Compendium
210
methods for reference method testing, other sample types were enriched in LB as per the
211
FDA-BAM, while BAX® System samples were enriched in either BAX® System MP media,
212
TSB + novobiocin, and/or tested directly from the reference method enrichments. All
213
enrichments, without respect to presumptive result, subject to culture confirmation and
214
isolates were biochemically and serologically confirmed by the appropriate culture
215
methodology where suspect colonies were present, with at least one confirmed colony
216
obtained from an enrichment being counted as a positive sample.
