endorsement for TPI
The International Tube Association (ITA) celebrates
its 30
th
anniversary in 2009 as the world’s largest
membership association of tube and pipe engineers
and professionals. Apart from organising more than
40 technical conferences since its foundation and
being at the forefront in the promotion of technical exchange and education
in the industry, the ITA supports its 800 members worldwide with a range of
services and benefits.
The ITA is now improving these benefits by offering new and existing members
a choice of free subscription to the most important international trade
magazines for the industry. One of the most attractive benefits is the annual
subscription to
Tube & Pipe Technology
magazine (TPT).
Now, all members have a choice of either TPT or
the new magazine
Tube Products
INTERNATIONAL
(TPI), which the ITA endorses as essential reading
for members interested in tube and pipe products,
materials and ancillaries, particularly if they are
buyers, specifiers, stockists or end-users.
When applying for membership, new members are
asked to specify which magazine they wish to receive.
Existing members who wish to take TPI instead of TPT
should contact the ITA office. Information about the ITA
and regularly updated news about its activities are posted
on the association’s website.

Trends in Surface
Technology
symposium
TST’08 – Trends in Surface Technology
– symposium took place on 26 June at
the Politecnico di Milano.
Focusing on innovative research in the
surface treatment and coating industry,
the main goal of the symposium was
analysis of the international scenario
and appreciation of scientific research
in the treatment sector. Members of the
academic and industrial research worlds
presented a technical programme over
two sessions – ‘Products and Processes’
and ‘Plants and Control’.
The event was sponsored by Poliefun,
a university guidance body technically
guided by the Politecnico di Milano,
a well-known institution within the
companies in the surface treatment
industry. One Poliefun’s main objectives
is to propose a solution for development
needs in the productive world, by
increasing awareness in the surface
treatment industry, and by encouraging
partnerships between the industry and
the university to achieve innovation and
scientific developments.

poliefun@anima.it www.anima-it.comThe dates for Tube 2010 and wire
2010 have been confirmed: the two
international trade fairs will show the
best their respective industries have
to offer from 12-16 April 2010, and
will again be held in the halls of the
Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. However,
unlike the recent 2008 events, the two
2010 trade fairs will not be held in
conjunction with METAV.
Tube 2010 will showcase tube and pipe
production and processing machines,
raw materials and tubes produced
from various materials. For the second
time, innovations from the areas of
pipelines and OCTG (oil country tubular
goods) technology will be introduced.
After the premiere in 2008, 8% of the
visitors surveyed reported that they
were interested in these innovative
technologies, especially in the areas of
pipeline construction (49%), materials
(48%) and machines and systems
(25%). 90% of visitors assessed the new
exhibition area, Pipelines and OCTG
Technology, as good or very good.
The figures relating to the latest Tube
event illustrate the market’s dynamic
development. All in all, Tube 2008
attracted 25%more international visitors
and 11% more German visitors. On the
exhibitor side, a growth rate of 32% on
the international front and 8% on the
domestic front was established, and the
display area was enlarged by one third.
The accompanying show for the
wire and cable industries, wire 2008,
achieved its highest-ever level of
international participation, with 59%
of visitors coming from abroad. The
product range at wire 2010 will focus
again on current technologies for wire,
cable and fibre optics, and the areas of
spring manufacturing and fasteners.
