Steel flanges from China
Shinsei (Jiangyan) is located in the
central part of Jiangsu Province,
Jiangyan City, China.
With around 200 employees and
an annual production capacity of
stainless steel and carbon steel
flanges of approximately 12,000
tons, the company is capable
of producing flanges of different
standards, including ASTM, JIS,
JPI, DIN, BS and AS, ranging from

In recent years there has been an
increase in the use of pre-varnished
pipes in civil and industrial installations
for water transportation. Major
applications include installations with
sprinkler nozzles for extinguishing fires;
the distribution of drinking water; and the
transport of processing and deviation
water from industrial purification plants.
In such diverse usage conditions, the
necessity for greater protection from
both external corrosion (as in the case
of exposure in harsh environments) and
internal corrosion has become evident.
Corrosion can compromise the reliability
of fire-extinguishing installations, reduce
the lifespan of piping, and contaminate
water intended for drinking use.
Jannone Tubi Srl, Italy, has analysed
these problems and developed a wide-
ranging research project that has led to
the creation of a product able to meet
the new demands of the market. Duplex
Shop Coat
®
, claimed to be the first
steel pipe pre-coated both externally
and internally, was developed using the
company’s experience with the Shop
Coat
®
covered pipe, a natural evolution
which meets the demands of greater
protection against corrosion, less
environmental impact and conformity to
contact with drinking water.
Duplex Shop Coat tubes are coated
externally with epoxy functional powders
with elevated anti-corrosive properties,
while the internal coating is carried out
with bi-component epoxy resins, which
are non-toxic and without solvents.
The high stability and chemical resis-
tance, and the possibility of obtaining
very great thicknesses, make this
coating one of the top in its category.
The production process adopts
solutions capable of respecting the
most demanding standards of corporate
impact and energy conservation. The
ISO 14001 and EMAS 8040 certifications
are recognition of the results obtained.
Sophisticated dosage and mixing
equipment allows a completely cured
resin to be obtained, without an excess
of catalyst and base, ensuring non-
toxicity and maximum results for
chemical stability and resistance to
corrosion. The mechanisation of the
control system for resin distribution and
for the removal of the protective film
determines the precise and constant
thickness of the coating along the whole
tube with a consequent reduction in the
percentage of defects. The reduction in
waste produced results in a reduction
in costs and greater results at the same
average thickness.
The high anti-corrosive results can be
explained on several levels: the chemical
stability, distinctive of this new resin,
and the perfect dosage of the reactive
components, ward off the development
of osmosis, typically connected to the
presence of a catalyst which is not
completely cured or of solvent residues
trapped inside the coating. Chemical
resistance is also improved, protecting
the convoy of PH acids often generated
by bacteria colonies present in water
coming from installations of industrial
purification, and which is subsequently
re-used for other purposes (anoxic
bacterial corrosion).
The high electrical resistance of the new
resin used in the internal protection of
the Duplex Shop Coat pipes improves
the results of insulation from stray
currents, often present in civil and
industrial water distribution installations
(electrical corrosion).
The Duplex Shop Coat pipe is also
suitable for use in the transportation of
drinking water because of its non-toxic
characteristics, in its alteration of its
organoleptic qualities, and its resistance
to chlorine composts often deriving from
disinfection processes. The pipes are
available in a dimensional range from 2"
to 8", and on request can be provided
with terminal grooves suitable for use
with rapid collar joints such as Victaulic.
Repair kits for both internal and external
coatings can also be supplied.
