£300mn
wastewater
environmental
improvement
Ham Baker Pipelines, a specialist
manufacturer of ductile iron fabricated
pipe and fittings, has supplied products
from its Fittosize Grip range to a major
£300mn wastewater treatment works in
East Sussex, UK, for Southern Water.
Products including flange adaptors,
couplings and step couplings in sizes
ranging from DN350mm to DN1400mm
have been installed at the Peacehaven
Wastewater Treatment Works, which
is situated at Lower Hoddern Farm.
Installed as part of the washwater and
service water ring main systems at the
site, a total of 14 NP16 x 500mm PE
Fittosize end restraint flange adaptors
are connecting the polyethylene pipeline
arrangement to the valves and
ductile iron pipework.
Alan Faherty, senior engineer
for 4Delivery, the main
contractor on the project,
said, “The Fittosize flange
adaptors were an easy choice
for this project due to their
cost effectiveness and off-
the-shelf availability. The
couplings also do not need
specialist tools and were easy to install
on-site.”
Darren Wood, general sales manager for
Ham Baker Pipelines, said, “We were
very pleased to be selected for this
prestigious environmental improvement
scheme which is an important project
for the South East.” The team from Ham
Baker worked closely with engineers
from 4Delivery and Southern Water
on the specification and selection of
products for the project.

One coating for all water pipe and fittings
Plascoat Systems Ltd has developed
a new high performance thermoplastic
coating for potable and waste water
pipes and fittings. The product is a new
member of the evolving PPA 571 family
of coatings, one of the most versatile
and durable coatings on the market.
Plascoat has extensive experience in
all aspects of powder coating, from
formulation and manufacture to global
water and food approvals, gained
through working in the industry for
over 60 years. The company has a
wide knowledge of world markets, their
changing needs and the ever-increasing
level of regulations and environmental
controls.
Over the past ten years Plascoat has
achieved a significant standing in the
worldwide water industry with its PPA
571 range of thermoplastic coatings,
working closely with global water
authorities since 2003 to reduce their
infrastructure costs.
Responding to a requirement in Australia
for a water pipe coating able to withstand
harsh
environmental
conditions,
Plascoat recognised the need to develop
a coating that ‘ticked all the boxes’ for
the water industry. This ‘one product fits
all’ coating needed to be suitable for use
on all pipes and pipe fittings internally
and externally, both below and above
ground, as well as being highly UV and
sand abrasion resistant, easy to apply
and cost effective.
The result was PPA 571 Aqua, a universal
coating that provides benefits to the
water industry and developed to meet
potable and waste water approvals
around the world.
