from his son, Harold Mark Ryan, who expressed his thanks for the letter of sympathy and
Floral Tributes.
NEW PRESIDENT
It was agreed that whilst the Committee were empowered to fill any vacancy, in the matter
of a New President he should be elected by the Members at a General Meeting and this
being so and as a tribute to Mr Ryan to leave the position open until the next A.G.M. It
was then moved that the Hon. Secretary be appointed to act as President until that
meeting. The resolution was carried with acclamation. In accepting the position, Mr
Buttress said that he was greatly moved and honoured by the manner that the resolution
had been put and carried unanimously, he had always tried to have the best interests of
the Club at heart and would continue to work to make the Club one of the outstanding in
the country. He had been approached with regard to the Presidency and had stated that
he was not prepared to accept the Office unless it was the wish of a majority of the
Members at the next A.G.M. Mr Alien had somewhat side stepped this by proposing that
he be elected Acting President and in these circumstances together with the knowledge
that the resolution had been carried unanimously he had great pleasure in accepting same
and invited all present to join him in appropriate refreshments, drinking the success of the
Club in the future.
An appeal was made for the Club too from an Allotment Society. Announced that the
Club's Savings Group had saved £5,713 in six months.
