APRIL.
A Whist Drive & Dance was arranged for the 15th. Decided to remove the stools from in
front of the Bar. This met with some opposition and they were eventually sold for 7/6
each. An Inventory of the Club's furnishing was made.
MAY.
The Programme arranged was a May Day Whist Drive & Dance for the Comforts Fund, A
Snooker Handicap between the Police, Home Guard & Wardens, who were Members of
the Club, versus a Team selected by the President from other Members. A.C.I., Ray
Winfield. R.A.F. wrote expressing thanks for the many kindnesses and the Hearty
Welcome given to him whilst stationed near Middlesbrough. A photograph of the recently
elected Hon. Member;- George Houghton talking to Gen. Wavell was received and his
parents Mr & Mrs H. F. Houghton (treasurer) were toasted for his continuous success.
Agreed to accept the lowest quotation for re-decorating the outside of the Club.
JUNE.
Two Evening Whist Drives & Dances, were arranged together with an afternoon Whist
Drive.
Certain repairs to the Billiard Tables were carried out.
One Guinea was sent to the Sailors' Orphan Home in Hull.
The Club furniture was re-valued at £1,050. and the insurance cover increased.
Announced that E. G. Pipe had been promoted Commandant of the A.S.P. in the
Sedgefield Area and congratulations were sent to him.
The Resignations of H. I. Pybus & W. Davison were accepted with regret.
JULY.
Two Evening Whist Drives & Dances and an afternoon Whist Drive was agreed. A
firewatching group was organised and representatives of the Motor Club did duty in
connection with same. The Mayor, having decided to have a House to House Collection
requested the assistance of the Motor Club. An appeal was made to Members for
assistance with transport of extra personnel for harvesting.
One Pound was given to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
AUGUST.
No Social Functions were held. In view of the shortage of Supplies it was decided to
restrict the entry of Visitors on Friday and Saturday evenings. Members of the Committee
were appointed to use their discretion in the matter of husbands and wives, and
distinguished serving members. Action had to be taken to restrict the attendance of
certain visitors who had been aggressive when advised of the Club Rules and the wishes
of the Committee in the matter,
