hours or less of annual leave of a FT; PT employees may maintain a balance as follows: PT 20,

twenty (20) hours; PT 25, twenty-five (25) hours; PT 30, thirty (30) hours), he is eligible to

use leave without pay for the remainder of the twelve week paternity leave. Periods of leave

without pay of a pay period or greater will reduce the employee’s leave accrual and service

bonus payments.

D. During any period of leave without pay, the employee is responsible for paying his share of

insurance premiums on a monthly basis.

5.4. In situations where a major illness occurs with the mother or child, the amount of sick-family

leave that can be used may be extended. An extension beyond what is provided in this policy

requires prior approval of the human resources director. If an extension is approved, it will be

subtracted from the employee’s sick leave balance.

6.0 PROCEDURES

6.1 An employee who plans to use leave for the birth of a baby should notify the supervisor as soon

as he/she is aware of the timeframe.

6.2 The birth certificate and temporary disability health certificate should be submitted when

received and placed in the employee’s personnel file.

6.4 The supervisor/manager is responsible for entering approved paid time-off into the City’s

time-keeping system.
