Supplemental Pay for Military Deployment

- The difference between the gross base

military pay for deployed employees and the gross base City salary provided the military pay is

less.

5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES

5.1 Benefit eligible employees deployed for military service in time of war will be placed in a pay

status called “unpaid service time.” Other (not benefit eligible) employees will be allowed unpaid

time off.

5.2 Employees who return to work in less than five years will be returned to the same or like

position they occupied prior to deployment with full seniority, status and pay as if there had been

no break in employment. A military discharge form DD-214 with an honorable discharge must be

submitted with the notification of intent to return to work.

5.3 Time limits for employees to reapply for return to work after release from military service are:

A. Less than 31 days absence - employee must report to employer by the next business day.

B. 31 days to 180 days absence - notification to the supervisor must be submitted within14 days.

C. More than 180 days absence - notification to the supervisor must be submitted within 90

days.

5.4 An employee returning to City employment following an active duty deployment in time of

war must be able to perform the duties of his former position or a position of like classification.

5.5 Provisions for Deployed Benefit Eligible Employees

A. The City will keep benefit eligible employees whole by providing supplemental pay while the

employee is deployed in time of war.

B. Benefit eligible employees will not earn annual leave or accrue sick leave while in a leave

without pay (LWOP) status.

C. Service bonus will be paid at 100% when the employee returns to work as if there had been

no break in employment.

D. Salary increases may be awarded and job level adjusted at appropriate times during the

employee’s absence.

E. The deployed benefit eligible employee may choose to drop or continue insurance. The City

will contribute the same amount to the deployed employee’s insurance as when the employee

was in an active pay status with the City. The employee’s portion must be paid by check or cash

to the City on a monthly basis.
