minor styling, capturing a sober
and balanced appearance in order to
create the look of an instant classic,
perfectly complementing Ferrari’s
return to a front-engined high-
performance road car.
Three years after its official
launch Ferrari announced their
GTC handling package for the
575M Maranello. Designed to
enhance the performance of the
vehicle the kit included carbo-
ceramic brake discs, racing brake
pads, lower and more rigid vehicle
setup, and unique 19-inch multi-
piece wheel rims.
In 2005 Ferrari introduced the
575M Superamerica as a convertible
version of the 575M Maranello.
Featuring an electrochromic glass
panel roof that rotated 180˚ to lie
flat over the boot, this intelligent
roof mechanism was previously
used on a Leonardo Fioravanti-
designed Alfa Romeo Vola
concept car.
The Superamerica boasted a
power output of 533 bhp and was
marketed as the world’s fastest
convertible Berlinetta, topping
speeds of 199 mph. Enzo Ferrari
maintained that there should always
be one car fewer available than
what the market was demanding
and the 575M Superamerica was
no exception; as a limited edition
model only 599 cars were built.
