F430
The F430 made its official debut
at the Paris Motor Show in 2004,
indicating a brand new generation
of Ferrari eight-cylinder models,
demonstrating exceptional
engineering and Formula 1
influence. The F430 boasted two
innovations for production cars –
the electronic differential (E-Diff)
and the commutator switch (better
known as the manettino by Ferrari
racing drivers) on the steering
wheel that allows the driver to

adjustments to suspension, traction
control, E-Diff, and the change
speed of the F1 transmission. The
settings available included sport,
race, ice, and low grip conditions.
The electronic differential, initially
developed for Ferrari F1 single-
seaters, transferred huge torque
levels while offering maximum grip
coming out of bends.
In terms of styling, the F430
shared the basic Alcoa aluminum
chassis, roof line, doors, and glass
that were used for the 360, however,
revision to the aerodynamic design
resulted in improved efficiency with
downforce greatly increased. The
4.3L engine marked the departure
of the previously used Dino racing
program V8 descendants. Powered
by a new 90˚ V8, derived from a
shared Ferrari/Maserati design, the
F430 could accelerate from 0-60
in 4.4 seconds and punched out a
maximum speed of 196 mph.
