Vakshas vasthika
The feet should cross one another
as in
Swasthika
hands must embrace the
chest, chest should be bent forward
slightly.
14.
Unmattha
The feet are held on the floor with
the heels up and the hands are moved to the
sides. The dancer bends her face.
15.
Svasthika
Both hands and the feet are in
Svasthika
(crossed over one another). The
dancer jumps with her hands and feet in
Swasthika.
16.
Prishtaswasthika
The feet are crossed in Swasthika.
The hands are circled and move in
Akshiptakshipa.
The hands are folded.
17. Diksvasthika
The hands are held in
Swasthika
and moved to both sides and in front and
back while the feet are placed in
Swas-
thika.
The hands and feet also moves in
Rechitha.
18. Aalathaka
The right leg is raised and stamps the
floor in a rotating manner. The right hand is
let down loose. The left feet is folded at knee
level and stamps the floor forcefully. One
foot moves in
Alata
while the right hand
moves down from the shoulder.
19.
Katisama
The feet are crossed as in
Swas-
thika.
One hand is placed on the nabhi or the
navel and the other on the hips. Sides are
raised and held straight. The dancer holds
one hand in
Katakamukha hasta
(placed
on the navel) and the other in ardha chan-
dra.
20.
Akshiptarechitha
Left hand is held near the chest.
The right hand is straightened sideways
and folded back. The feet are in
Anchitha
and
Suci
postures. One hand pointing
downwards holds
Hamsa-paksha.
This is
brought forward with a quick circular
movement to the chest.
21.
Bhujangathrasitha
One foot is thrown up and the thigh
is moved obliquely. The hips as well as the
knees are moved in a circular manner. The
left hand holding
katakamukha
is raised.
Right hand is in
Suci hasta
pointing down-
wards.
22.
Anchitha
The hands in
Ardhasvasthika
are
held in front of the nose like an elephant
trunk. It is arched over the tip of the nose.
Then hand is at first in
karihasta
followed
by alipadma.
23.
Ardhasvasthika
Feets are crossed as in
Swasthika
posture. The right hand is raised as in
karihastha
just like a raised elephant's trunk
and held on the chest. The left hand is in
Sukathunda hasta. The hips will be moving
slightly.
24.
Vikshiptashipthakam
Both the hands and feet are
circled and thrown up and down. Hands
will be in
Chatura hasta.
25. Urdhvajanu
The leg is raised up and held in
front of the chest and hands are moved
and held nearby. Hands hold
Alapadma
and
Arala mudra.
The karana is believed
to have been performed by Lord Siva,
while defeating Kali who accepted defeat
since she was not able to perform the
same.
26. Nikunchitha
The leg is bent backward and
raised. The left hand is folded and placed
on the hip. The right hand is arched and
held near the nose. Hands in
katakamukha
hasta. The feet as well as the hips are
slightly bent.
27.
Matthalli
With a whirling movement, the right
and left feet are thrown back. Hands are
coiled and crossed and moved in
Udvestika
and thrown back.
28.
Ardhamatthalli
The left hand wili be held for-
ward, and then placed on left thigh. This
karana is half of
Matthalli.
The feet move
restlessly.
