Humberside Branch
hold
90th
Birthday
Party
On 16 January, 2013, in snowy cold
conditions Humberside branch held
its 39th Annual General Meeting.
Regular attendee and former branch
Chair, Geoff Baskill, had just days
previously quietly celebrated his
90th birthday.
The current branch Chair, Gerry
Carville, and Secretary Paul Horsley
were determined that Geoff’s
birthday should not go unmarked by the branch and presented Geoff with
a cake at the conclusion of the meeting.
Paul said, “
We had considered a cake with 90 candles but, apart from the
required size, the fire system at the club would not have coped.”

is on me...
Since our retirement my wife
and I have enjoyed annual
cruising holidays.
Before
each trip we send a travel
request to BSAC and as a
result have been met by IPA
members at many ports all
over the world.
In December 2012, we went
on a cruise to the Eastern
Mediterranean and our usual
travel request met with
responses from Sections
Spain, Hellas (Greece) and
Malta.
After meeting with members
in Spain and Greece on our
outward journey we called in
at Malta on New Year’s Eve.
Here we were met by their
President Dione Bugeja who
introduced us to a member
who was a serving officer. He
took us to the police HQ for a
tour, including a visit to their
large police museum. He then took us on a tour of the island visiting many
of the local attractions.
On the return route, we called at Vigo, northern Spain, where we met with
a trio of members - scoring a hat trick - as we met a member of each of
the three police authorities of Spain: Guardia Civil (mainly military), the
Policia Local (municipal police) and Policia Nacional (national police).
At each port, in return for hospitality received and as a token of our
appreciation we always treat our hosts to lunch in a local restaurant or on
board ship. I think that is the least we can do in return for the friendship
offered.
Over the years I have met many very interesting people and enjoyed their
hospitality in true IPA spirit.
