With these new XLPE grades, cables will
bene t from very high electrical and
insulation properties, as well as optimal
high temperature and abrasion resistance.
With this new range of grades, Repsol
aims to provide the power distribution,
telecommunication,
transportation
and appliances industries with easy to
imple- ment, cost-e ective and reliable
grades. Due to its increased thermal and
mechanical stability, silane cross-linkable
PE can also be used in other applications
requiring high working temperatures and
improved chemical resistance, such as hot
water pipes.
All Repsol Chemicals XLPE grades may
be implemented without any need for
special processing equipment and are
ready-to-use on standard extrusion or
injection moulding production lines. These
grades will be available by the end of
2014.
Additionally, Repsol has a full portfolio
of EVA and EBA grades, where all MFI
and comonomer content alternatives are
covered, for semi-conductive compounds
for medium and high voltage cables.
Thereby, the portfolio for medium voltage
cables is covered, providing solutions
to all polymeric layers of the cable:
sheathing, insulation and semiconductive
compounds.

Ridgway Machines
Stand: 11E05
Ridgway Machines focuses on the latest
portfolio and developments in high speed
taping lines on its newly expanded stand.
Ridgway machines are used worldwide for
the precision covering of at and round
conductor wire and cables. Automated
horizontal and vertical machine lines
maximise
productivity
and
simplify
precision taping and bunching operations
for a wide range of media – for example
paper, mica, glass, PTFE, Kapton®, Nomex ®
and Mylar®.
High performance features include a wide
range of rugged multi-pad tangential
and concentric taping heads, twin servo
drives, graphic HMI control systems with
camera technology and remote machine
diagnostics.
Ridgway also provides pipe manufacturing
solutions, for example the application of
high strength reinforcing tape layers (such
as Kevlar®, glass and carbon bre) used
in the manufacture of fused composite
reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP).
Example RTP applications include oil
and gas production ow lines and water
injection systems.
Visitors to the Ridgway stand will be
able to see a selection of the concentric
and tangential multi-pad taping heads
developed by the company together with
examples of nished taped conductor,
cable and RTP pipe products used for a
variety of global industry applications.
Andy Clarke, sales and marketing director
at Ridgway, said: “Wire Düsseldorf is
our main showcase event for wire and
cable covering machinery. It provides a
valuable and well-proven opportunity
to meet customers from the worldwide
industry. This year we are taking the
opportunity to focus on the breadth and
quality of solution that we can provide
to our customers with our latest modular
machine range and various examples of
taped product.”

Roblon
Stand: 09F41
Roblon is introducing the new precision
coiling unit, PCU. In excess of the Roblon
PCU, the line consists of the following
machines: Pay-o , caterpillar, dancer and
take-up. Also being introduced will be
new yarns, such as the new ripcord and
water swellable yarns.
The precision coiling unit (PCU) eliminates
the need for manual guiding of the cable
in the take-up process.
The PCU o ers automatic precision
winding at high speed. It can be used
in-line in the production line or as part of
a rewinding line. The unit is 100 per cent
automatic, eliminates many safety issues
and reduces the need for expensive labour
resources. The cable is positioned perfectly
side-by-side without major gaps or cable
crossings, ensuring high quality and a very
presentable re-wound product.
Roblon’s Quick Adapter o ers a totally
new way of changing bobbins on Roblon
yarn-servers. Based on pneumatics, the
quick adapter enables a quick and safe
change of bobbins, resulting in a dramatic
reduction of down time.
The handling is ergonomic and the
optimal xing of the bobbin helps
minimise vibrations at increased server
and production speed.
Roblon’s ripcord is made of polyester
or aramid and used for easy removal
of the cable jacket. They are available
as customised types in a variety of
thicknesses and breaking strengths,
lengths, coated, coloured, non-wick,
water-blocking, and at-shaped to cable
manufacturers worldwide.
Roblon is introducing a new range of
water swellable yarns to complement its
product range.
These yarns o er very fast absorption
rates, and are still very smooth with a low
dust level. Due to the superior features,
the water swellable yarns are not only
suitable as swell yarns, but also as binder
yarns.
Roblon is a total solution provider to the
bre optical cable industry, focusing on
cable-making machinery and industrial
yarns for bre optic cables.
The company is ISO 9001 and 14001
certi ed and develops high-tech industrial
bres such as glass and aramid strength
members, binder yarns and ripcords.
Furthermore, it develops and manu-
factures serving, binding, take-up and
pay-o equipment.
