A
Memorable Weekend

On Friday, 14 September, 2012, a group from
Waldshut-Tiengen, Section Germany, arrived in
the UK for a weekend of stepping back in time
with horse drawn travel and murder mystery.
Sussex branch have been twinned with Waldshut-
Tiengen since 1998.
After a brief visit to Devil’s Dyke - a famous beauty
spot near Brighton, the group travelled to
Godalming, where members were joined by Surrey
branch to enjoy a trip on the Arun and Wey canal
on the boat ‘Iona’ - which was drawn by a Shire
horse. There were 31 in the party and they all
enjoyed a cream tea on board.
It was then on to Petworth House, a
National Trust property, where a murder
mystery was enacted by professional
actors scattered around the house. Visitors
became sleuths as they interviewed
suspects surrounded by the many
magnificent paintings and fine furnishings
that this house has on show.
Rolf and Lisa Bendel stayed in the UK as
the rest of the German visitors made their
way home later that evening.
The couple were taken on a magical
mystery tour of London on the Tuesday which included a trip on the London Eye and later to
The Tower for the ceremony of ‘The Keys’. This turned out to be a lucky day for Adrian
Boniface, Sussex branch Secretary, as he won the first prize in a draw in The Yeoman
Warders’ Bar. Adrian won a beautiful engraved decanter of the Tower. Adrian’s good luck
continued on Thursday evening at his branch’s meeting. His numbers came up twice on the
200 Club prize draw!
Sussex branch is already looking forward to visiting Waldshut-Tiengen in September.

I

So I'm very happy with my

Bob Smith, former Chair of 5 Region, made a long
overdue presentation of a Presidential Award to
Laura Payne, former Chair of West Mercia branch.
The award was in recognition of Laura’s contribution
to the IPA Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in 2010.
Unfortunately, Laura was not present at that year's
NCM and the presentation was delayed owing to
Laura's move to France following retirement from
the service.
