The future is now! Well, it is in this eleventh
instalment of arguably the most popular FPS
series ever. It’s 2054, and extremist collective
the KVA have taken out nuclear reactors the
world over in the most brazen terrorist attack yet
seen. With governments and armies foundering
and powerless, private military corporations are
picking up the slack. You’re Jack Mitchell, working
for the most powerful and best-equipped of these
– the Atlas Corporation. New tech ranging from
holograms to exoskeletons and even hoverbikes
is at your disposal, as you do the bidding of the
bloke who’s now the most powerful in the world
– Atlas boss Kevin Spacey! Add classic multiplayer
and online and the future’s looking bright for
CoD. But maybe not so bright for humanity.
BATTLEFIELD 4, TITANFALL
Possibly the most shameful, headline-hogging
game series ever brings its abject depravity to
the new consoles! Ban this sick stunt! Oops,
sorry, we got caught up in all the ridiculous,
unfounded scaremongering that’s surrounded
the Grand Theft Auto series pretty much since
its inception. While GTA V has been around for
a while, scooping all of 2013’s ‘Game of the
Year’ awards that The Last of Us didn’t, it comes
to PS4 and Xbone bulging with extra stuff –
sideways around a corner in a squeal of tyres,
of course. What sort of extra stuff? New
weapons, vehicles, songs, activities, missions,
graphical enhancements, weather and more.
Crazed open world gangster action doesn’t
come any slicker than GTA, and it just got slicker.
This’ll keep the kids off the streets...
SAINTS ROW IV, SLEEPING DOGS
While many write ‘Visit the Himalayas’ on their
bucket lists, we’re not sure too many actually
manage to cross it off. Now you can save
yourself a whole bunch of hypothermia and do
it from the comfiness of your couch, as Far Cry
hits Nepal. You’re Ajay Ghale, returning to your
birthplace of Kyrat to honour your mother’s dying
wish to scatter her ashes. When you become
involved with a resistance aiming to topple a
despotic and flamboyant self-crowned king named
Pagan Min, you feel the urge to stay awhile and
fight for the people’s liberation... The in-game
Nepal in this latest in the open world FPS series
is crawling with wildlife – and deadliness!
From rhinos to deceptively named honey
badgers, wits are needed – and weaponry.
At least the latter comes supplied...
