Mumbai. Pulsating. Hectic. Bustling. There is even
a monument called the Gateway to India in this
coastal city of some 12,500,000 people.
Formerly known as Bombay, this city is a hive of
activity from the first shards of daylight until well
after nightfall.
And it is, for three days, home to the wire and
cable industry with WIRE & CABLE INDIA being
held at the city’s convention and exhibition centre
from 28

October.
The exhibition caters for many sectors within the
industry, including wire manufacturing and
finishing machinery; process technology tools;
auxiliary process technology materials; materials,
special wires and cables; measuring and control
technology and test engineering.
Following market-based reforms in 1991, India has
become one of the fastest growing economies in
the world, and is considered a newly-industrialised
country.
GDP is expected to grow by seven per cent this
year and, according to experts, five-fold in the
next 20 years.
The country’s infrastructure financing and new
manufacturing policy alone will open up $1 trillion
worth of opportunities to foreign investors over
the next five years, while the automobile industry –
worth $73 billion a year – is expected to double by
2016.
