Growing Majority of Osteoarthritis Inpatients Undergo a Total Knee Replacement
• In 2011, 81.2% of patients with a primary
diagnosis of osteoarthritis underwent a
total knee replacement, up more than
three percentage points from 78.1% in 2010.
• Meanwhile, breast cancer patients (to 27.2%
from 29.1%) were less likely to undergo a
unilateral extended simple mastectomy, the
most common procedure for these patients.
