2016-2020 FINANCIAL PLAN
Continued to support the work of the
multi-agency Substance Use
Awareness Team (SUAT) with the goal
of continued expansion in community
outreach and public awareness
campaigns and specifically:
Facilitated the work of the multi-
agency Public Intoxication
committee (which formed the
Newton Hard Target sub-
committee) with the intent of
aligning services to support
vulnerable individuals who are
presenting an increased draw on
limited police resources in
specific areas of the City; and
Supported the Surrey Area
Network of Substance Users
(SANSU) in partnership with
Fraser Health and Simon Fraser
University in the development of
a 7 session public focused,
educational workshop series on
drug addiction.
Initiated City-wide forms-compliance
review and began the implementation
of the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation
(CASL) Compliance Policy to assist the
City in ensuring compliance and
minimizing unsolicited commercial
electronic messages (CEM) as well as
reducing electronic threats, like
phishing, malware and spyware;
In terms of Corporate Records,
registered and processed over 3300
pieces of incoming correspondence,
1300 boxes of records moved to off-
site, 450 files retrieved from offsite,
800 boxes retrieved and 817 boxes
destroyed;
Managed and processed 104 Public
Hearing Items, including the drafting
of over 300 bylaws, and mail-out of
205 Public Hearing Notices to over
31,000 properties;
In partnership with Planning,
commenced the administration of the
process for the termination of Land
Use Contracts which involves
approximately 400 Land Use
Contracts;
Coordinated the 2015 UBCM
Resolution process involving the
facilitation of information from all
departments and the production of the
resolutions document in both hard-
copy and the iPad version;
Coordinated the review and clean-up
of 400 Development Permit and
Development Variance Permit files
that required registration with the
Land Titles Office;
The Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA)
process at the City of Surrey evaluates
the effects of applications and
initiatives on individual privacy and
ensures the protection of personal
information. The PIA process creates
a framework to ensure that the
protection of personal information is
considered throughout the design and
implementation of applications and
initiatives;
In terms of Freedom of Information
(FOI) requests, 325 FOI requests have
been received and processed in
accordance with legislated time-lines;
The FOI section of the City’s website
provides the public with effective
methods to access information,
including an information request email
to direct their inquiries. This email is
managed on a daily basis providing an
efficient response to inquiries,
including internal FOI and privacy
questions as they arise; and
Partner with social services agencies
in looking at solutions for
homelessness.
