Magnatech’s D-Head has proven itself as

a rugged tool to automate pipe welding

in the fabrication shop or for site welding

applications. The compact weld head

utilizes the GTAW process and is designed

for making circumferential butt welds where

the pipe cannot be rotated.

Only 50mm of radial clearance between

pipes is required, allowing use for

applications difficult to weld manually

because of access. The redesigned head

incorporates all necessary functions

required for multi-pass welding including

high speed, arc gap control, filler wire feed

capability, torch rotation, endpoint ‘dwell’,

and torch oscillation with adjustable stroke

width.

While many orbital weld heads are limited

to very finite size ranges, the D-Head can

be used on any size of pipe or tube from

25mm up to 355.6mm. Therefore, one

weld head can cover a broad size range,

by changing only one component – the

guide ring. Guide rings are available for all

standard ‘boiler tube’ sizes. A contractor

can purchase the equipment for a specific

job, knowing that it can be used for future

jobs as well.

The D-Head is designed for use with

Magnatech’s new digital power supplies.

The D-Head mounts on only one side of

the weld joint. Pipe-to-fitting welds can be

made as simply as pipe-to-pipe welds. The

water-cooled head can be used on pipe

alloys requiring preheat.

The D-Head is capable of substantially

increasing productivity by increasing the

duty cycle of the welding process. Users

have reported increased welding production

by a factor of 2-3 as compared to manual

welding. The weld head can be used in any

gravity position.

Simplified 200 amp orbital

welding power supply

Swagelok Company, Switzerland, has

launched the new Swagelok

®

welding

system M200 power supply, that offers ease

of use, portability, and 200 amp capability,

with a weight of less than 50lb (23kg).

Users can choose from one of three forms

to enter weld programs, including automatic

weld schedule programming. The M200’s

automatic shield gas control (patent

pending) simplifies set-up of shielding gas,

requiring no use of a separate flow meter.

Universal voltage input (100 to 230 V

[ac]) requires only a cord/plug change to

accommodate an input voltage. The M200

works with all currently available Swagelok

weld heads, and includes four USB ports,

Ethernet port, USB device (output) port,

VGA output, and serial port.
