Residential Areas

There are awide variety of residential areas to choose from,ranging fromMid-Levels with its

convenient access to the city center, to the resort-like atmosphere of Tai Tam and Stanley on the

south side of the Island.Here isan overviewof some of themajor areaswhere expatriates are

most likelyto settle.

Deep Water Bay—Repulse Bay

Picturesque Deep Water Bay lies nestled between Shouson Hill and Repulse Bay, and is known

foritsluxuryhouses,manywithglorious viewsofthebay.Mostbuildings face theexclusivenine-

hole DeepWater Bay Golf Club, which in turn adjoins one of the finest beaches in Hong Kong.

Repulse Bay, originally a resort community, is one of the most popular residential areas in Hong

Kong. Luxurious high-rise apartments with extensive facilities co-exist with older,low-rise

structures and exclusive modern townhouses. Blessed with a breathtaking Mediterranean-style

coastline,asplendidbeachandpier,superbrestaurantsandshopping,andextensivepublic

transportation, it is especially popular as the elementary grades of the Hong Kong International

School(HKIS)are locatedhere in twonewlyrenovatedbuildings.DrivingtimetoCentralis20

minutes via DeepWater Bay.

The picturesque, white colonial Repulse Bay Hotel (The Repulse Bay) has been recreated to

house two top-notch international restaurants,an excellent supermarket serving the expatriate

community several doctors’ and dentists’ practices and a few boutiques.

Happy Valley

HappyValley—with itsmixoflow-riseandhigh-risebuildings—hasasmall-townvillage feel,

and apartments offer views of the surrounding mountains and its famous racetrack.

Situated along the Hong Kong tramline, the area is serviced by a variety of public transportation;

it

is also a 10-minute drive to Central. Happy Valley is within walking distance to the sports

facilities atVictoriaPark and vibrant CausewayBay.The upper-middle grade sections of the

French International School and the Hong Kong Japanese Primary School; and Adventist Hospital

are all locatedhere.

Jardine’s Lookout—Stubbs Road—HK Parkview

Jardine’s Lookout—named for its views that overlook Happy Valley—has become

increasingly popular with expatriates because of its close proximity to Quarry Bay, home to

many multinational corporations’ HQs. Jardine’s Lookout is a serene, green community with

new luxurious high-rise buildings, older townhouses, garden apartments and private homes.

The French International School primary section is located here. The area is well served by

public transportation; driving time to Central is about 20 minutes. Situated above Jardine’s

Lookout and The Hong Kong Cricket Club is Hong Kong Parkview. This self-contained

complex is set in a country park, and offers housing, recreation, shopping and a pre-school.
