On Exhibit AT THE SURREY ART GALLERY Experience new art, new ideas, and new media at Surrey’s contemporary art museum. Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.Small Stages
Sep 17−Dec 4
Opening Reception: Sep 17 | 7:30−9:30pm
Paintings of bowls of fruit, flowers, and objects on a
table top are imagery commonly associated with classic
still life art, but what about a photograph of books with
miniature llamas on them, or a chandelier sculpture of
kitchen and garden utensils? Drawn from the Gallery’s
permanent collection, the artworks in this show depict
carefully arranged—and sometimes unusual—scenes
that reflect on and expand the still life genre. You’ll see
paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints.
Also on view this fall are four other exhibits—including
audio and video works—focussed on the still life genre.
Bill Burns, How to Help Animals Escape from Natural
History (The Lama Version) (2005), chromogenic
photographic print on paper. Collection of the Surrey
Art Gallery.
Over the course of the exhibition, events such as talks,
tours, and Family Sunday—where families explore,
enjoy, and create art together—are fun and engaging
opportunities to connect with the artworks and the
ideas behind them. Find out more on our Events page

Art Instructor
PROFILES
Surrey Art Gallery invites you to learn
with instructors who are experienced art
educators and practicing artists. Here are
three of our fall instructors.
Dalia Ibrahim
Dalia Ibrahim has been a
practicing fine artist, graphic
designer, and art teacher for
the last 20 years. She holds
a Bachelor of Fine Arts and
Diploma in Graphic Design
for Marketing. Dalia’s art
teaching style focuses on
developing technical skills while improving the ability to
see details, form, and depth. She enjoys those “Ahhh!”
moments when her students grasp a technique or learn
to see the world in a different way. This quarter, Dalia is
teaching Preteen Art Extreme and Drawing Techniques.

76.April Davis
April is a practicing artist and
art instructor with experience
in a broad range of artistic
mediums and processes. She
has her BFA from Emily Carr
University where she received
the Governor General’s
Award upon graduation.
April believes that through an appreciation of art and
participation in the creative process, we become more
aware of ourselves and the world around us. She loves to
share in this experience with others through her teaching.
April instructs the Surrey Art Gallery’s School Program
and, this fall, she is teaching Explore & Create for Home
Learners. See page
77.Inoka Manori
Born in Sri Lanka, Inoka’s
unique talents and artistic
insight were discovered
at an early age. She was
placed in a convent to
study art before obtaining
her master’s degree at the
prestigious Surikov Academy
of the Arts in Moscow. Her award-winning work has
been shown in a variety of international exhibitions, and
her works are held in private collections throughout the
world. Inoka works to constantly expand her artistic
