Last September, Tyson and Danielle Geister said their "I do"s overlooking the Minnesota River. The fairy-tale-like arches of the Huber Park amphitheater, large stairway and wide- open space were exactly what Danielle had imagined for her outdoor ceremony. And the more practical amenities—built-in seating, restrooms, parking, playground— gave her piece of mind. "Huber Park was exactly the outdoor setting we were looking for," Danielle said. "It helped that the covered pavilion was also included so we had a backup if it rained." With its scenic setting and close proximity to downtown venues, Huber Park is a popular choice for couples looking for an outdoor wedding experience.

When the ceremony is over, it's time to get the party started. Consider hosting your wedding reception at the Community Room at the Shakopee Community Center. The large, open-space fits approximately 180 guests and includes a dance floor, fireplace and wall of natural lights. The Community Room also has a full catering kitchen. Alcohol is permitted with a damage deposit. More information about these options is available on the city website under www.ShakopeeMN.gov/parksandrecreation or check out page 54. Check out a video about the city's rental space options on the city's YouTube channel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PROGRAM REGISTRATION AB UT US

NON-RESIDENT FEE POLICY All participants living outside the city limits of Shakopee (Jackson Township, Louisville Township, ISD #720, and other surrounding communities) must pay a $10 non- resident fee for each program. This amount is per participant per class and must be paid when registering. Non-resident fees are not applicable to one day events, field trips, youth associations or adult athletic leagues. Jackson and Louisville Township resident registrations: The amount due will be listed based on your residency. The $10 will be paid by the township at the end of the year. If it is not correct, please call our office at 952-233-9500. FAQs I have a Shakopee address. Why am I not considered a resident? Even though your mailing address is Shakopee, you reside in a township or adjacent town. Your tax dollars are not directed to the municipality of Shakopee. School District boundaries and city boundaries are not the same. Why does a non-resident have to pay more than a resident? Residents within city limits have a portion of their tax dollars support city services. Slightly higher fees for non-residents are intended to keep the financial aspect fair.

How do I know I'm in?Will I receive confirmation? You can assume you are in the class you registered for unless you receive a call to the contrary. We will call you only if: • The class you chose has reached its registration limit and you were placed on the waiting list. • Your second choice was processed. • Your registration form is incomplete. Can I transfer to another class? We will make every effort to accommodate your request to transfer to another class; however, that may not always be possible. There is a $5 service fee charged on all class transfers that needs to be paid at the time of request. We appreciate your understanding when we are not able to accommodate cancellations, transfers or registrations after the registration deadlines. Do programs have a waiting list? Due to facility space and staff limitations, many classes have registration limits. When classes have reached their maximum registration, a wait list will be started. If an opening becomes available due to a cancellation, it will be offered to the first/next person on the waiting list until the opening is filled. Every effort will be made to create additional class sessions and you will be contacted if your registration is able to be accommodated. Once the class begins, if we have been unable to accommodate you, we will return any fee(s) paid. What is your refund policy? Registration fees for programs canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department receive a full refund. If you cancel your registration before the registration deadline, we will refund your registration fee, minus a $5 processing fee. No refunds will be given if a cancellation is requested after the registration deadline. What happens if I miss a class? Make-ups for individual missed classes will not be accommodated.

preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice. Helmets are highly recommended for all beginners (bicycle helmets acceptable). Basic Skills This program will introduce the basic skill moves that are the fundamentals of the sport: forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns and mohawks. Upon completion of the basic levels, skaters will have a basic knowledge of the sport, enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating. Hockey Skills The curriculum teaches the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skaters will learn how to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice. Necessary equipment: hockey skates, certified hockey helmet (ice approved) and hockey gloves (optional). Classes are strictly skating; no stick handling. Free Skate This is the point where the skater can choose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating. Adult Primary focus is to develop forward and backward skating, gliding, stopping and introduce crossovers. Advances adult classes also available.

determined by skill level and age. • Shakopee Parks and Recreation

reserves the right to move children to the appropriate level if they are not registered in the correct level.

• Protective headgear is recommended for all children under the age of 6 and must be provided by the participant. • Class attire: Skaters should wear warm, comfortable clothing. We suggest dressing in layers so jackets or sweaters may be removed as the skaters warm up. Mittens or gloves are a must! No tight jeans; they restrict movement. • Please make sure that your skate blades are sharp and your boots fit properly. Skates should be sharpened before first class. • Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled class. • Classes may be combined or canceled if minimums are not met. • Skates may be rented for $5 a class. New arena pro shop opens April 1 Beginning April 1, EdgeTek Hockey will open a new full-service pro shop at the Shakopee Ice Arena, offering professional skate sharpening and repair, a broader range of high-quality hockey and figure skating products and apparel products and services. Previously purchased punch cards for skate sharpening will no longer be accepted after April 1, 2020. Please use your punch cards by March 31. EdgeTek will offer customers with remaining punches on their previously purchased cards will receive a one-time discount of 15-percent off their first EdgeTek Hockey sharpening card.
