Theoptimisation and validation of a simple, rapidmethod for the determination of biotin in
infant / adult nutritional formula has beendescribed. Themethodmeets standardmethod
performance requirements as set byAOAC-SPIFAN to analyse samples on routine basis.
The simplemethodnot only demonstrated acceptable repeatability among two products
used in the validation but also found to havegoodaccuracy as demonstrated by spike
recovery analyse and certified referencematerial NIST 1849a. The resultsof thisSLV
demonstrate that thismethod has enough sensitivity to analyse products for biotin
ranging from0.1 to 250µg/100g. The sensitivity of themethod is directly calculated from
the lowest calibration standard assures system suitability for theanalysis.
