Shaping stainless steel
Vena is a stainless steel tube producer
from Turkey. Its stainless steel pipes and
hollow sections are produced by TIG,
HF and laser welding techniques, and
are used in paper, chemistry, medicine,
paint, petro-chemistry, plastic and food
industries, and corrosive environments.
The company’s facility at Gebze, near
Istanbul, has an annual capacity of
42,000 tons of stainless steel pipes and
hollow sections.
Stainless steel pipes range from 10 to
168mm in diameter, and stainless steel
hollows vary from 10x10 to 120x120mm,
produced according to EN standards.

Based on its RotoUTscan ultrasonic
rotating head, Contrôle Mesure
Systèmes (CMS) has introduced the
new RotoUTDim for the dimensional
measurement of tubes and cables from
4 to 250mm diameter on the production
line.
This system is designed to measure wall
thickness all around the product, OD, ID,
ovality, concentricity and eccentricity,
for all types of materials, including steel
(ferrous and non-ferrous), plastic and
fibre glass.
Measurements are made by two
ultrasonic transducers that rotate
around the product. Data is collected in
real time over the entire circumference
with a step up to 0.1mm, and all
along the product (whatever the length)
with a step of 1mm. Accuracy of the
measurements is ±0.002mm. Data is
collected in a supervisor, visualised
and saved. Gates for alarms are
available, and input of encoder allows
the positioning of the data.
RotoUTDim covers a wide range of
industrial applications, such as nuclear,
automotive, precision tubes and cables,
medical and multi-layer coating.

Straub specialises in the development
of pipe connections and repair
products. The company claims to be
flexible and robust in aligning itself to
changes in the market place, which
can happen almost overnight. With
a network of business partners the
company, which belongs to the Aliaxis
group in Belgium, is active worldwide.
The technical benefits of using pipe
couplings include a flexible and stress-
free connection that also compensates
tolerances of pipe ODs.
The couplings dampen structure-borne
noise and vibrations and compensate
for thermal expansion. The coupling
seals work progressively, ie the contact
pressure of the sealing lip increases with
increasing internal pressure.
With quick and easy installation, the pipe
ends need no preparation. As there is no
welding or adhesive use, neither fire
or explosion protection measures have
to be taken. Various types of coupling
are available to meet the demands
of different industries and installation
conditions: axial restraint and flexible,
one-part, two-part or foldable, as well
as couplings for connecting different
pipe materials, such as HDPE.
If secure and permanent pipe systems
and pipe connections are required,
Straub supports the customer
individually, by offering engineering
solutions and on-site installation.
Based on the original Straub coupling
technology, and in close cooperation
with the customer, the right coupling
is developed that fulfils the project-
specific specifications.
