Meta-analysis on second cancers after Radiotherapy for Breast

Cancer: 762,468 Breast Cancer Patients

Inclusion:

Cohort studies that compared irradiated early breast cancer patients with un-

irradiated patients.

Outcome:

Studies had to report risk estimates of second cancer; either as the RR or HR

together with the corresponding 95% CI.

Meta-analysis based on random effects models; to allow for between study variation.

9 population based cohort studies

3 single institution cohort studies

1 regional prospective study

The study population comprised European or North American populations of

female breast cancer patients

Study population 13 included studies

Cumulative size: 1,661,193 women

Eliminating overlapping cohorts: 762,468

RT treated: 321,325 (42%)

Non RT treated: 441,325 (58%)
