Internal Applicants
Qualified ICMA‑RC associates are encouraged to apply for positions within ICMA‑RC that afford them
professional growth and opportunity. Internal candidates should remember three key criteria:
1) TENURE IN CURRENT POSITION
Before applying for a new position, you should serve a minimum of 12 months in the position for which you
were hired or in a new position to which you have been promoted or transferred. The exceptions to this rule,
which must be approved by the division head and Human Resources, are:

Because of licensing requirements, the Participant Services unit within Client Services strongly encourages
an 18-month period of service for a new associate who begins work with ICMA‑RC without FINRA
licenses but who acquires those licenses within the initial months of work. New associates who acquire
FINRA licenses while employed by ICMA‑RC and leave the corporation within 18 months may be
required to reimburse ICMA‑RC for any costs associated with obtaining those licenses.

If an associate is interested in a position within his or her division, the division head may waive the
12-month or 18-month waiting period provided that business needs can still be met. This 12-month or
18-month waiting period does not apply to upgrades to a position within the same job category (e.g.,
promotion from Associate I to Associate II).
2) NOTIFICATION OF SUPERVISOR
If you are scheduled for an interview for another position within the corporation, you must notify your
supervisor of the interview. Additionally, it is always important for you to discuss your plans and career
aspirations with your supervisor, who can guide you and offer advice.
3) INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS
If you are uncertain as to whether you meet the minimum qualifications of the posted position, you may
request an informational interview with the assigned recruiter, the hiring manager or a Human Resources
manager. If you request an informational interview with the hiring manager, the interview should be
first arranged with the assigned recruiter or Human Resources manager. You do not need to inform your
supervisor if you are scheduled for an informational interview.
Posting Current Job Opportunities
Job opportunities are generally posted on headquarters bulletin boards, in Outlook/Public Folders/Job Postings, and
on UltiPro, which is accessible via
my.icmarc.org.
(See Recruitment on
page 65.)
The job posting briefly describes
the position and the division or department where it is located. In general, positions are posted both internally
and externally at the same time. Qualified internal candidates who apply prior to the posting deadline are given
first consideration for interviewing; and internal candidates can apply for the position until it is filled. Some
positions are not posted, such as a unit, functional or divisional reorganization or an inline progression.
Associates must apply for job openings via UltiPro. Further information can be obtained by contacting the
Human Resources recruiter listed on the posting. ICMA‑RC reserves the right to make exceptions to the
posting policy and process.
