1919
At a committee meeting held on 13
th
February it was decided to ask for the return of
all cups. Circulars issued by the London Guarantee Accident Co. in respect of
insurance were enclosed with the notice to members calling a General Meeting. This
was held on the 13th March at Hintons Cafe, 50 members being present. M.
Jefferson was in the Chair, Stanley Sadler resigned his membership due to pressure
of business. The Balance Sheet and Committee's Report was adopted. It was
agreed to place on record the Club's deep regret at the death of the late President,
Lawrence F,Gjers, and members who had been killed or died during the War.
The following were elected:-
President, John Gjers. All Vice-Presidents ware re-elected,
Committee - G.H.Blackburn, A.W.Foster, T,A,Gjertsen, M.Jefferson, G.W,Liddle,
R.Sorrel, W.Ryan, V.Taylor and A,Young
Joint Hon. Secretaries:- C.C.Close and W,Randall.
Captain - J.Gilchrist, Vice-Captain F.W.Dixon,
A vote of thanks was passed to J,Gilchrist and F.W,Trotter for their past
services as Secretaries,
The Annual Subscription was raised to 7/6d for Gents and 2/6d for Ladies.
Government Control of Roads.
It was agreed to write to the three M.P's for the district and Town protesting in the
name of the Club against the "Ministry of Ways and Communications Bill", The said
Bill was deemed unsuitable and against the interests of motorists so long as roads
were included and subsequently Penny Williams M.P, and Trevelyan Thompson
M.P. replied.
The Committee was instructed to consider:
1. Petrol supplies in bulk. (Later found to be impracticable),
2, Meeting place in the Town.
3. Social Runs.
4, Social Club,
C,W.Smith offered a prize of 3/5 guineas. R.H,L,Pickering offered a Gold Medal
and Cups by Mr Craddy and Mr Crombie.

100 copies of the A.C,U, Illustrated leaflets were received and receipt of the
affiliation fee of one guinea was acknowledged. Members complained at the attitude
of the A,C.U, that no notification of facilities or benefits under Division C, especially
the "Get-you-Home" scheme, no mention of badges or numbers and membership
cards, had been received. Subsequently it is recorded that a reply made everything
satisfactory.
